The ruby market is one of the most complex in the world. Industry statistics suggest that up to 95% of rubies currently on the market are either synthetic, glass-filled, or heavily treated.
Inclusions: The Fingerprint
A completely flawless ruby is almost certainly a fake. Natural rubies always contain "silk"—tiny needle-like inclusions of rutile that prove the stone was formed in nature.
